Revolution loanee Tyler Rudy came on late for the second straight week as the Rochester Rhinos grabbed a 3-0 victory over longtime USL rival FC Montreal on Saturday at Stade Saputo in Montreal.

Johnny Mendoza opened the scoring the 35th minute to give the Rhinos a 1-0 lead which held until halftime. The game opened up in the second half after a Kehassemae Zoue red card in the 66th minute left Montreal FC with 10 men. Christian Volesty capitalized with the first two USL goals of his career, scoring in the 69th and 71st minute.

Rudy made his second appearance of the season shortly after Volesty’s second goal when he came on for Kenardo Forbes. Rudy joined the action at the same time as Providence College alumnus Marcos Ugarte, who spelled Mendoza.

Midfielder/forward Timi Melgrew, who was also loaned by the Revolution to Rochester last week, did not see action for the second straight game.

Rochester now sits alone in second place with seven points in three games, all of on the road. Saturday more than doubled their goal total on the season, as they now have five goals on the season, while they remain one of the USL’s top defensive teams with only one goal conceded.

Rochester has a busy week as they travel to the Midwest to face Louisville City FC on Thursday night and Saint Louis FC on Saturday night. After that road trip, the Rhinos will have their home opener on Apr. 26, when they host the New York Red Bulls II. That will be the second matchup against New York Red Bulls II, as the Rhinos opened the season at Red Bull Arena, battling to a scoreless draw.
