Davies, Tierney Pick up Weekly Honors
- Updated: April 27, 2015
Revolution striker Charlie Davies and left back Chris Tierney were both named to MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week for week 8 of the regular season.
Davies and Tierney both scored in the Revolution’s 4-0 rout of Real Salt Lake on Saturday, a win which pushed the club’s unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2). Davies tallied in the 50th minute after knocking through a Scott Caldwell cross while Tierney, a left-footed player, uncorked a shot using his right foot to score the opening goal in the 39th minute.
Winger Juan Agudelo, who assisted on Tierney’s blast and scored in the 43rd minute on Saturday, also received an honorable mention, as he was listed on the bench for this week’s team.
MLSoccer.com Team of the Week for week 8:
GK: Dan Kennedy (FC Dallas) – Couldn’t hold on for the shutout, but he wasn’t culpable on the Rapids’ goal and showed well in his FC Dallas debut, making four saves to keep the visitors, playing down a man, in the game.
D: Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew SC) – Has been one of the tidiest passers in the league this season and provided an assist on one of Finlay’s two goals.
D: Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy) – The US international was integral to shutting down the potent Red Bulls attack as the Galaxy held the home side to a 1-1 draw.
D: Chris Tierney (New England Revolution) – Astoundingly scored a golazo with his right foot while also providing his usual strong defensive work against a depleted RSL side.
M: Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew SC) – Two goals and an assist in a clinical performance for the winger against Philadelphia.
M: Michael Farfan (D.C. United) – Made his first start in central midfield and more than held his own against some of the league’s top players in that position as United beat Vancouver 2-1 on the road.
M: Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City) – Scored two goals, including the stunning and dramatic equalizer, but had an overall monstrous performance on both sides of the ball as KC drew with the Dynamo in a wild 4-4 game.
M: David Accam (Chicago Fire) – Sure, almost anybody could have scored the goal, but he deserved one on Friday night. From the opening whistle, this guy showed he was worth the money the Fire spent as they beat NYCFC 1-0.
F: Charlie Davies (New England Revolution) – Consistently made great runs in behind the RSL defense, opening up the attack for the rest of his teammates.
F: Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew SC) – Scored his fifth goal of the season to pace MLS, but he also showed his skills as a provider, setting up the final goal for Crew SC against the Union.
F: Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC) – Clinical in both goals – his third and fourth of the year – helping Toronto win at Orlando to snap a four-game losing streak.
Coach: Gregg Berhalter (Columbus Crew SC) – His attack completely dismantled the Union defense and now has all of its attacking options going at full bore.
Bench: Jaime Penedo (LA Galaxy), Ashtone Morgan (Toronto FC), Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle Sounders), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), Giles Barnes (Houston Dynamo)
