The local region will be well-represented during Saturday’s pair of ASL semifinal clashes after Western Mass Pro Soccer and the Rhode Island Oceaneers both booked their postseason trips earlier this week.
Western Mass clinched the ASL table on 37 points (10-1-7), and finished the 2014-15 regular season with a 1-1 draw against Mass United FC last weekend. The Lusitanos will face the Philadelphia Fury on Saturday at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
“I am pleased with how we finished this season,” said Western Mass head coach Federico Molinari in a team release. “Our team overcame many obstacles, but we still have more challenges. We are all working to hoist the championship on Jul. 3.”
Rhode Island finished second in the Atlantic Division on 25 points (7-5-4), and earned their postseason berth by beating the Evergreen Diplomats 3-0 on Tuesday. The O’s will face Icon FC on Saturday at Rutgers University in Newark, N.J. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
The winners of Saturday’s semifinal contests will face off in the ASL championship, which will be held on Jul. 3 in New Jersey.
