- Updated: July 22, 2015
James Smith’s extra time strike sent Northeast Division winner GPS Portland Phoenix to a 2-1 win over runner-up Seacoast United Phantoms in Tuesday’s divisional playoff match at Yarmouth High School in Yarmouth, Maine.
Smith, who entered the match in the 80th minute, struck in the 103rd minute to unlock a match that required extra time after the sides finished full time at 1-1. Phoenix midfielder Andrew Wheeler opened the scoring in the 35th minute before Phantom defender A.J. Dubois leveled it in the 60th minute.
The match was delayed in the 71st minute due to lightning in the area.
With the win, the Phoenix march on to the PDL Conference semifinals on Saturday when they face the New York Red Bulls U-23s at NJIT Stadium in Newark, N.J.
