In a winter that’s seen a number of familiar faces wave Beantown goodbye, the Breakers bucked the trend on Tuesday by re-signing forward Kyah Simon.

The Australian international scored two goals in seven matches for the Breakers during 2015, which marked her second go-round with the local outfit. She previously spent time with the Breakers in 2012 and 2013.

“I’m very happy about re-signing for the Breakers for the upcoming 2016 season. I have formed a great relationship with them since my inaugural year in 2012,” Simon said in a club release. “I’m excited to come back to Boston and get to work under Matt (Beard’s) guidance, and with the squad closely in, I hope for a successful season ahead.”

Simon is one of the few players from the 2015 season that Beard, who was appointed to the helm in October, has decided to keep on board for the upcoming season. One of the motivating factors for keeping the goalscorer in tow was undoubtedly her success on the biggest stage. During the 2015 Women’s World Cup, Simon tallied three goals in four games for the Matildas.

“She proved in the World Cup what a great finisher she is, and I’m hoping with our improved squad that we can create plenty of chances for her,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said in a club release. “Her experience is going to be key for us this season and she is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very much looking forward to working with.”

The new-look Breakers are expected to open preseason camp in March.
