Lowell’s Green Lions Set for Major League Futsal Action

Safira FC won’t be the only Mass.-based futsal side set to join the national ranks as Lowell’s Green Lions Soccer Academy will partake in the debut season of Major League Futsal (MLF) this year.
The Green Lions, which started up as a youth futsal program with teams in MAPLE, will be fielding its first proper adult team in MLF, which officially welcomed the club as an expansion side in January.
“The MLF (is) a great opportunity to do this,” Green Lions Soccer President and Co-Founder Leo Mejia told NESoccerToday.com. “It will be a great challenge and we may be too ambitious. We do believe it is a great chance to help Futsal advance and give our youth players something to look up to.”
The Green Lions will compete in the Eastern Conference of the MLF, which will also feature Safira FC as well as fellow New England-based futsal side Expose Select. The Lowell selection hasn’t yet established its home gym, but is looking at venues in Greater Boston.
MLF is expected to kick off its inaugural season in March with a schedule that will run through July.
