USL: Rhinos Unveil New Logo
- Updated: March 10, 2016
The Revolution’s USL affiliate, the Rochester Rhinos, unveiled an updated logo at an introductory press conference for its new ownership group on Thursday.
Two months after the USL terminated its franchise agreement with former owner Rob Clark, who previously told the league that he didn’t plan on fielding a team for the 2016 season, the league officially welcomed Rochester-area real estate developers David and Wendy Dworkin as the club’s new owners.
With the new ownership group in place, a revised logo and crest was unveiled to mark the change.
“As the Rhinos entered a new era, we wanted to create a bold new take on the club’s classic crest,” David Dworkin said in a club release. “We hope the Rhinos’ fans will embrace the new crest as they have the club for the past 20 years.”
The Rhinos’ new logo maintains the club’s traditional green and gold colors, while offering a modern look as the club enters its 21st season as the defending USL champion.
USL CEO Alec Papadakis officially welcomed the Dworkins to the league during Thursday’s festivities.
“We are delighted to welcome David and Wendy Dworkin as owners of the Rochester Rhinos, one of the most historic clubs in the USL’s history,” said USL CEO Alec Papadakis said in a league release. “Their strong ties to the local community make them the perfect people to lead the Rhinos forward, and we are excited to see them take the club to new heights in 2016 and beyond.”
The new owners have already overseen upgrades to the club’s home park as a new high-definition video board was installed at Rhinos Stadium during the winter. The stadium will also feature expanded parking options and stadium staffing, as well as upgraded concession stands.
“We want Rhinos Stadium to be regarded as one of the finest in the USL,” Wendy Dworkin said in a club release. “With the financial commitment being put into the venue not only ahead of the new season, but in the future, we believe Rhinos fans will have an experience that is second-to-none as they cheer the team on to victory throughout the season.”
The Rhinos have served as the Revolution’s USL affiliate since 2013. Last year, the Revolution loaned midfielders Tyler Rudy and Timi Mulgrew to the Rhinos, which won the USL championship.
Rochester will kick off the regular season on Apr. 2 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
