Breakers Suffer 2nd Preseason Defeat

Elise Krieghoff scored late, but it wasn’t enough as the Breakers fell 3-1 to the Florida Elite Soccer Academy U16/U17 boys select team on Wednesday at Flager Field in St. Augustine, Fla.
Krieghoff spoiled FESA’s bid for a clean sheet in the 87th minute when she nodded a Brittany Ratcliffe ball into the back of the net.
“Physically, it was a great test for us tonight. We went up against a good boys team,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said in a club release. “I felt in both halves, we played some good football at times. The aim of tonight was to finish off with a positive performance.”
Wednesday’s match was the Breakers’ final game of their eight-day preseason trip to Florida. On Sunday, they fell 1-0 to the Florida State University women’s side.
Despite the losses, Beard believes that progress was made across the board.
“For me, there are lots and lots of positives that came out of both performances (Florida Elite and Florida State),” Beard said. “I’ve learned a lot about all the players on this trip, and for me, that was my aim. The pleasing this is, with each training session, with each performance, we’re progressing. Now we can get back to Boston and focus on having positive results in the next couple games.”
The Breakers will return to Boston on Thursday, and resume preseason action on Sunday with a doubleheader against Boston College the University of Connecticut.
