Breakers Wallop BC in Preseason Finale

Louise Schillgard scored a hat trick while Kristie Mewis picked up a brace as the Breakers steamrolled the Boston College Eagles 8-0 in Friday’s preseason finale at Newton Soccer Complex in Newton, Mass.
Kyah Simon kicked off the scoring parade in the 12th minute while Stephanie McCaffrey tallied in the 32nd minute. Schillgard collected the first of her three goals in the 37th minute before striking again in the 51st and 74th minutes.
Mewis scored the first of her two goals from the spot in the 42nd minute, then added another from the run of play in the 73rd minute. McCall Zerboni also etched her name on the scoresheet in the 52nd minute.
“It was good to see some of the stuff at the top end of the pitch start to click and gel a little bit,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said in a club release. “I think defensively we’re looking OK. There’s still lot to improve on. But going forward you could start to see people reading each other.”
With the win, the Breakers finished their preseason at 2-2-0, but it was the final 45 minutes of the preseason that Beard seemed particularly pleased with.
“We had a good chat at halftime and rectified one or two things,” Beard said. “I think in the second half, we created some good chances, especially penetrating them centrally, which is something we’ve been trying to do a little bit better.”
The Breakers will open the regular season on Apr. 16 against the Washington Spirit at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
