Newtown Pride FC kept it close going into the break, but was unable to withstand Lansdowne Bhoys FC’s attack after the break to drop a 3-0 loss in Farmington, Ct. during Sunday’s Region 1 play-in match for the National Amateur Cup tournament.

The Bhoys got their first goal of the game in the 35th minute from Craig Purcell, who headed home a cross from Jason Gaylord to put the Pride on notice going into halftime.

But the Bhoys were too much for the Pride to handle after the break. Captain Stephen Roche converted from the spot in the 47th minute while Jimmy Neilis scored directly from a corner kick not long after to cap the scoring.

With the win, the Bhoys leapfrogged the Region 1 quarterfinal stage after New Hampshire-based Manzonilla forfeited the clash, thus affording the Yonkers-based squad a spot in the semifinals. They’ll face the winner of the Apr. 17 quarterfinal tie between Southie FC and Trenton Rebels.
