- Updated: April 12, 2016
Three-time U.S. Futsal National Champion Safira FC will kick off its debut season in the first part of a Major Futsal League (MFL) doubleheader on Saturday when they face Southeast Futsal Academy at BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass. Kickoff is 6:00pm.
The Boston-based side, which recently won the 2016 U.S. Futsal Northeast Regional Championship, was one of the first local futsal sides to join the league. Their showdown against Southeast Futsal will precede the second matchup of Saturday’s doubleheader, which will pit a pair of regional sides – New England Futsal and Massachusetts Green Lions – against each other at 8:00pm.
On Sunday, Southeast Futsal will meet New England Futsal at 10:00am while Safira will take on the Green Lions at 12:00pm. Both matches will be played at Durfee High School. Information on the weekend’s slate of games is available here.
The aforementioned sides, all of whom will compete in the MFL’s Eastern Conference, will each play a nine-game schedule that will run through Jun. 26. All matches are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays.
MFL is comprised of 32 teams across the continent, including footprints in Canada and Mexico. The top eight clubs will advance to the playoffs while the bottom three will be relegated to the second-tier National Premier Futsal League.
The league’s title game will coincide with the U.S. Futsal National Championship in San Jose, Calif. during the weekend of Jul. 14 – 17.
