UWS: Mutiny Edge Inferno
- Updated: May 21, 2017
Kate Howarth bagged a brace to help send the New England Mutiny to a 3-2 win over the Lancaster Inferno at East Longmeadow High School in East Longmeadow, Mass. on Saturday.
Howarth kicked the scoring off inside of three minutes, then added another in the 29th minute. Riley Houle scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 34th minute as the Inferno fought back with goals from Haley Crawford and Traci Mohl in the 18th and 75th minutes, respectively.
“The team chemistry was a little lacking tonight but the character of the girls is what pulled them through the adversity,” Mutiny head coach Joe Abele told the media after the match. “They worked hard for each other and got the job done. Lancaster really showed a lot of grit tonight and a lot of heart. They brought it to us in the second half but in the end, I think it was a fair result.”
Mutiny keeper Anne Ulliac made five saves to help the hosts hold off Lancaster.
With the win, the Mutiny remained unbeaten (2-0-0, 6 points) in their first two games of the season. The Inferno started their season in the loss column (0-1-0, 0 points).
The Mutiny return to action on Jun. 3 when they face the New York Surf at SUNY Maritime in the Bronx, NY. Kickoff is 4:30pm.
