Revs U-17s Fall 3-0 in Tourney Opener

The Revolution U-17s dropped a 3-0 loss to the Orlando Pirates (South Africa) during its first Group A match of the Future Champions Gauteng tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday.

Siyanda Ngcobo’s two goals (20′ and 47′) sandwiched Nhalonipho Ntuli’s 21st minute strike to give the pirates the decisive win.

The match was played at the Nike Training Center in Soweto, which sits over 5,000 feet above sea level.

The Revolution 17s return to action on Tuesday when they face SAFA School of Excellence (South Africa). New England is the only North American squad participating in the 12-team tournament.

I think playing a game only a day after traveling to South Africa would be enough to cause the generally solid Young Revs to fall. It’s awesome that are even able to participate in this tourney and I hope they said hi to Danleigh Borman! 🙂
