Breakers Take 3-0 Win in Opener

Bianca D'Agostino brings it down with a number of Charge players in the vicinity.

It was a debut to remember for the Boston Breakers, who claimed a 3-0 win over the ASA Chesapeake Charge in their first WPSL Elite contest on Thursday in Arnold, Md.

The Breakers, who played in WPS for three seasons (2009-11) before the league suspended operations in January, overwhelmed the Charge with a fast and furious display of firepower as Veronica Napoli, Jessica Luscinski and Katie Schoepfer all scoring inside of 20 minutes. Rookie goalkeeper Alice Binns kept the hosts off the board to record the clean sheet.

Napoli didn’t wait long to get her name on the scoresheet when she converted a Courtney Jones cross that put the guests up only four minutes into the match.

But the Breakers wouldn’t rest on its one-goal lead for long. Less than ten minutes later, Napoli assisted on an effort from Schoepfer to make it a two goal game – a margin that would be particularly short-lived.

Moments after Schoepfer’s goal, Luscinski got a hold of a Leslie Osborne pass and put it through to cap the scoring well before the midway mark of the first half.

Meanwhile, Binns and the Boston back four de-powered the Charge to claim the shutout victory.

The Breakers remain in Maryland for an exhibition match against D.C. United Women (W-League) on May 12 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. at 6pm. Following the friendly, the Breakers kick off their home slate on May 18 at 7pm when they host FC Indiana at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass.
