Eagles Best Bobcats

With star attackers Kyle Bekker and Charlie Rugg sidelined, the 14th-ranked Boston College Eagles lacked much of their offensive fire power on Friday, but still managed to leave Quinnipiac with a season opening 2-1 win.

The Eagles (1-0-0) were outshot by the Bobcats (0-1-0), 11-10, and Eagles goalkeeper Justin Luthy made five saves in the win.

BC senior Kevin Mejia opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his seventh career goal, while freshman midfielder Jason Abbott doubled the lead two minutes later with his first goal as an Eagle. The Eagles were outshot six to four in the opening half, but Luthy kept the Bobcats at bay, making three of his five saves in the first 11 minutes of the match.

Quinnipiac pulled one back through William Daniels in the 59th minute, but the Eagles held on for the win.

Boston College returns to Newton to host Boston University at the Newton Campus field on Monday at 5 p.m. in the Eagles home opener.
