After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue and Ryan Lanigan contributed ratings for the New England Revolution’s 3-3 draw with Chivas USA.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 4.75 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 5)
Made some solid saves, but came out for the corner on Joseph’s first goal and didn’t get there and looked shaky on other set pieces. (Sean) … There wasn’t much he could do on any of the goals, really. He might have had a chance of Joseph’s second, but the former Rev had too much space. He did nice to keep one point, denying Juan Pablo Angel and Juan Agudelo within seconds.  (Ryan)

Kevin Alston – Average Rating: 4.5 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 4.5)
Generally solid defensively, though he had a few issues with Agudelo. Struggled in the air defensively on crosses. (Sean) … He did well throughout the game. He didn’t go forward as much as he usually does and I think it helped his defensive game. He was beat on the third goal’s assist, though. (Ryan)

Stephen McCarthy – Average Rating: 4.5 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 4.5)
Needed to do more to fight through to get to the first corner or did Reis call him off? Communication needed to be better with Rowe on the third goal. Otherwise a decent night. (Sean) …It’s not clear who was marking Joseph on his corner goal, but logic points at McCarthy. There was a cluster that separated Joseph from his mark, giving him an easy opportunity to win the header. (Ryan)

AJ Soares – Average Rating: 4.5 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 4.5)
Not a bad showing considering three goals conceded, but communication needed to be better on the third goal, as he let his mark on the throw-in, Juan Agudelo, get open to receive the ball and send in the cross. (Sean) … Overall did a decent job shutting down opponents, but with McCarthy marking on the second Chivas goal, one of the defenders has to see the run coming and step up into space. (Ryan)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 5.375 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 5.25)
Can’t fault him much for the Revs defensive collapse, and service from the run of play and set pieces was solid. (Sean) … No defender should deserve high marks in a game that saw a 3 goal lead blown, but Tierney help set up the first goal and almost added an assist when Rowe’s header clanked the iron. (Ryan)

Kelyn Rowe – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Ryan 5)
Had some great moments offensively and also some misplaced passes. Defensive positioning and marking was questionable, particularly on the third goal. (Sean) … Rowe was off and on throughout the night – which somewhat resembles his rookie campaign. At moments, including the majority of his services and his almost-goal, he had played real well. At other times, his touch is off and sometimes frustration sets in. (Ryan)

Ryan Guy – Average Rating: 4.75 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 5)
Passing wasn’t great and perhaps could’ve done more on both of Joseph’s goals. Did have some positive moments in the attack. (Sean) … Average game for Guy, who admitted fault on the second Joseph goal. Said Guy, “I think I definitely take some of the blame for that goal right in before half. I let Shalrie (Joseph) come in behind me. It was a great strike, all credit to him, but those are things that are unacceptable. I definitely take full responsibility for that and it’s something now that I know if it’s going to happens, it’s never going to happen again, or at least I’m going to do my best to make sure that’s the case.” (Ryan)

Clyde Simms – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 5.5)
Rarely misplayed a pass, but didn’t do enough to slow down the game or cause turnovers when Shalrie Joseph began to talk over the game. Better positioning could’ve cut out the ball to Agudelo, before he set up the second goal. Frankly needed to be more of a presence in the game.  (Sean) … A normal game for Simms. He did his job, like he has done all season. It’d be nice to see an offensive burst at some point. Contained Agudelo on the second goal…but in hindsight would have probably pressured more. (Ryan)

Lee Nguyen – Average Rating:  5 (Sean 5, Ryan 5)
Definitely looked healthier and was active early. Corner kicks were solid, but otherwise was unable to create much. (Sean) … It was good to see Nguyen go for a full 90 and look healthy on the pitch. He had some nice moves but nothing came of it. (Ryan)

Saer Sene – Average Rating: 6.625 (Sean 6.5, Ryan 6.75)
Solid finishing from Sene to get two goals and hit 11 for the season. Will it break him out of his slump? (Sean) … Anytime a player scores two goals, it’s usually because they did something right. He did well to find the ball on the first goal and had a nice quick release on his second shot. (Ryan)

Jerry Bengston – Average Rating: 5.375 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 5.25)
Some decent off the ball runs forward and effort to put pressure on Chivas’ defense when they had the ball. Run helped create the own goal. (Sean) … Maybe the best thing we saw from Jerry was 90 minutes of time on the pitch. Sene said their relationship is growing, too. (Ryan)

(sub) Benny Feilhaber – Average Rating: 4.625 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 4.75)
Some good runs, but too slow to pull the trigger. Caught offside, wasting an attack when he was arguing a call. (Sean) … He did well when he replaced Sene, but failed to pull the trigger on a couple of opportunities.  (Ryan)

(sub) Diego Fagundez – Average Rating: 5.75 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 6)
Showed some creativity and life in his minutes on the field. (Sean) … He didn’t have a serious scoring opportunity but his first touch was very good and created some space in his limited minutes. (Ryan)
