BU’s Bustamante Signs with NY

Former Boston University midfielder Michael Bustamante signed a deal with the New York Red Bulls on Friday.

The 23-year-old prospect was selected by Red Bulls in the first round (13th overall) of last month’s supplemental draft. He scored in the club’s preseason tilt against Real Salt Lake last week.

“Proud to be a New York Red Bull,” Bustamante said via Twitter following the news.

Bustamante was a four-time America East All-Conference First Team and NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection at BU. He scored nine goals and racked up 27 assists in 69 games during his college career.

Last summer, he featured for the now-defunct Worcester Hydra (PDL), where he scored three goals and added three assists.
