Revs, Cisse Mutually Agree To Part Ways

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Revolution announced that they have parted ways with midfielder Kalifa Cisse after mutually agreeing to cancel his contract.
Cisse, 29, became a member of the Revolution in November of 2012 after spending time with Bristol City. He started in six games for New England, including the season opener in Chicago, but had not played for the team since the Revolution’s 1-1 draw with New York on May 11th.
“We want to thank Kalifa for his time with us and wish him well on his future opportunities,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “He has been a true professional and a great mentor for our young squad, so we wish him the best as he moves on.”
Cisse did not register a goal or an assist in his 456 minutes of play for New England. The Revolution have most recently used rookie Scott Caldwell in the defensive midfield role, along with Clyde Simms. Andy Dorman has also seen time in that role.

What happened to all the transfer interest? I thought mid tier Championship clubs were chomping at the bit to get him? Looks like we’ll get nothing for him then?
Well, at least we’ll have his salary open. Perhaps we will use that cap space to sign Davies… or Saha…

Interesting time to release Cisse’ with only one day remaining in the summer transfer window. Can we expect a subsequent move today? Despite the fact this is the Silly Season, I haven’t read any transfer rumors regarding the Revs. It also shows the confidence the organization has in Scott Caldwell which is well-deserved.
