Revs Open 2014 in H-town on 3/8
- Updated: November 25, 2013
Get ready to circle some dates on next year’s calendar.
For the sixth straight year, the Revolution will open the regular season on the road as they kick off the 2014 campaign on Mar. 8 against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
MLS released its master schedule on Monday, and not surprisingly, the fixture list put the local XI on the road for four of its first five. The Revolution’s home opener is set for Mar. 22, when the Vancouver Whitecaps come to town for a 2:00pm clash.
For the third straight year, MLS instituted an unbalanced schedule, with the each club playing conference rivals multiple times while playing opposite conference clubs only once each.
One such opposite conference clash will bring former Revolution star Clint Dempsey back to Gillette Stadium for the first time since 2006 when the Seattle Sounders come to Foxboro for a Sunday night match on May 11.
Despite reaching the postseason, the Revolution will not host any nationally-televised regular season contests in 2014. All three of its national broadcasts will be played on the road (Apr. 19 at Chicago, Sept. 26 at Sporting Kansas City and Oct. 16 at Houston).
Notable dates on the fixture list include 2013 playoff foe Sporting Kansas City returning to Foxboro on Apr. 26, while date with the New York Red Bulls, which found a 97th minute equalizer in a wild 2-2 draw on Oct. 5 at Red Bull Arena, will visit the Revolution on Jun. 7.
The Revolution will only play twice in June – both at home – due to the World Cup in Brazil.
Not to be overlooked in this year’s schedule is that fact that the Revolution will close out their campaign at home for the first time since 2008 when they host Toronto FC on Oct. 25.
Curiously, the Revolution will be on the road for its Jul. 4 clash when they play Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.
