With a 2013 conference semifinal rematch on tap, let’s take a look at what the Revolution and Sporting Kansas City players and coaches were saying in the days leading up to it.

Revolution coach Jay Heaps:

“Well, their pressure is pretty overwhelming. I think that’s one thing they do really well and they compete – it’s just a good team from top to bottom. They’ve got good international players, they’ve got good American players, they’ve got a system that they play which was put into place by (Peter) Vermes, and they all buy into it unbelievably, and it’s the whole thing together is a pretty good well-oiled machine.”

Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes (via sportingkc.com):

“They’re a team that has a found way to win games, and be competitive in all the ones they’ve played thus far in the season. They’ve got a good group of guys, and it can be a very dangerous group so definitely nobody to take lightly but more importantly somebody to make sure you’re very attentive with over 90 minutes.”

Revolution striker Teal Bunbury:

“It’s definitely their style of pressure – the one thing that I feel sets them apart is that everyone’s bought into that. There’s not one guy who’s a second late or a step behind to put pressure on a certain player. I think that’s what sets them apart is that they’re all working together, and are all on the same page, and it’s the same philosophy to use that pressure.”

Sporting Kansas City fullback Seth Sinovic (via sportingkc.com):

“We know from experience how good of a team they are from last year’s playoffs. (They have) lots of talent in the midfield, and obviously Teal’s very dangerous up top, so it’s something we have to be prepared for on Saturday.”
