ASL: Perdomo Gives Oceaneers 1st Win

TAUNTON, Mass. – Andres Perdomo’s stoppage time strike clinched the first victory of the season for the Rhode Island Oceaneers, who beat the Evergreen Diplomats 2-1 on Friday at Fore Kicks Soccer Complex.
Perdomo notched the winner in the 91st minute, while Emerson Barros’ 79th minute goal canceled out Eddie Campbell’s 55th minute opener.
Two of Rhode Island’s coaches were sent off in the 79th minute after they were warned at halftime for arguing fouls.
With the victory, the Oceaneers improved their record to 1-1-0 (3 points), while the Diplomats mark dropped to 1-2-0 (3 points).
Friday’s affair was a high-octane one by many standards, as both teams spent much of the match trying to exploit defensive deficiencies. Perdomo nearly netted one in the third minute after latching onto a through ball and blasting it just wide of frame.
The Diplomats made a few forays of their own, one of which they believed should’ve led to a penalty. Brian Graham broke free into the area, but collapsed following a hard challenge in the box as he watched play continue on.
It wasn’t until the 55th minute that the scales were finally tipped as Campbell put the guests on top.
But the Oceaneers wouldn’t go quietly into the cool, early-autumn night. Barros, who was a threat all evening out on the left, equalized in the 79th minute. The winger’s goal set the stage for Perdomo, who grabbed the game-winner a minute into stoppage time.
The Oceaneers will look to get another win on Saturday when they head north to face Western Mass Pro Soccer at Lusitano Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Earlier this month, the Lusitanos grabbed a 2-0 win over the O’s at Cranston Stadium.
