Fagundez Scoreless in Recent Uruguay U-20 Romp
- Updated: December 23, 2014
Two days after picking up a goal and two assists in a friendly, Diego Fagundez couldn’t etch his name on the scoresheet for the Uruguay U-20s in Tuesday’s 5-2 romp over local side Lavalleja.
Fagundez was among the 11 who played in the win, which marked the second exhibition between the U-20s and Lavalleja on Tuesday. The first ended in a 0-0 draw. Each match went 60 minutes, with 30-minute halves.
In the second match, Mauro Arambarri scored twice while Gastón Pereiro, Franco Acosta and Franco Pizzichilo each tallied for the U-20s.
The U-20s will resume training on Friday following a brief Christmas break. They’ll return to the pitch on Saturday for a friendly against Canelones del Este.
The friendlies are a part of head coach Fabian Coito’s preparations for the South American Youth Championship, which will run from Jan. 14 through Feb. 7. Coito, who included Fagundez on the preliminary 30-man roster, is expected to announce his final roster for the tournament on Friday.
Should Fagundez make the roster and play in a FIFA-sanctioned match for the Uruguay U-20s, he would no longer be eligible to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team since he is not currently a U.S. citizen.
