Revolution Youth Academy forward Justin Rennicks scored for the U.S. U-16 squad in its 2-0 win over Romania on Monday in the 2015 Aegean Cup International Youth Tournament at Kirkagac Ilce Stadium in Turkey.
Rennicks scored the Americans’ first goal in the 48th minute on a well-weighted through ball from Juan Pablo Torres that split the Romanian defense. Adrian Villegas padded the lead with a goal in the 69th minute that was set up by Raul Aguilera.
“Justin has had a strong start to the Academy season – this is a real honor for him,” Revolution director of youth development Bryan Scales said in a team release. “He continues to work extremely hard on his game, and should relish the opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best in Turkey.”
Rennicks collected a combined 20 goals in his first two seasons for the Revolution Youth Academy, playing for both the U-14s and U-16s. The South Hamilton, Mass. native has scored a goal and collected a team-high four assists in 10 appearances for the U-16s this season.
The 15-year-old forward, who also saw action off the bench in Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Norway, will return to action with his U.S. U-16 teammates on Thursday against Turkey. Should the U.S. advance from the group stage, the potential third place match and championship match will be played on Saturday, January 24.
