Fagundez Left on Bench for Tourney Final
- Updated: February 8, 2015
Diego Fagundez was left on the bench for the Uruguay U-20’s 2-1 loss to Argentina in Saturday’s South American Youth Championship final.
The Revolution midfielder, who’d last seen action as a late-game substitute in a 3-1 win over Peru on Jan. 29, did not get minutes in either of Uruguay’s final two matches of the tournament.
Despite the loss, Uruguay still booked its ticket to the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, which will run from May 30-Jun. 20.
Fagundez was called into Uruguay U-20 camp in December before making the final cut. He accumulated 147 minutes over four matches (two starts, two substitute appearances) for his native country.
With the tournament over, Fagundez is expected to re-join the Revolution for preseason camp later this week.
