Injured Revolution defender Darrius underwent surgery on his left knee on Thursday, a source told New England Soccer Today.
Barnes missed Sunday’s match at Philadelphia due to a left sprained knee, and was not spotted at training this week. He last played in the Revolution’s 0-0 draw to the Columbus Crew on Apr. 11.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not disclose Barnes’ prognosis, and did not confirm how he suffered the injury. After going the full 90 in the Revolution scoreless draw to the Crew, Barnes was seen in the locker room with a large ice pack on his left knee.
The club did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding further details about Barnes’ injury.
On Thursday, Barnes’ status on the injury report was downgraded to “out” on the Revolution’s injury report after he was listed as “questionable” last week.
Barnes has played in five games so far this season. He assisted on Kelyn Rowe’s 37th minute goal against the San Jose Earthquakes on Mar. 28, a game which the Revolution won 2-1.
