The Rochester Rhinos advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night by defeating Greater Binghamton FC of the National Premier Soccer League by a score of 1-0.

Kenardo Forbes put the home team ahead with a goal in the 39th minute. That goal held through full time in a one-sided match that saw the Rhinos control the majority of the game and create the majority of chances throughout the match.

Both Revolution loanees, Tyler Rudy and Timi Mulgrew, did not make the gameday 18, presumably to allow them to suit up for New England later on in the tournament. Providence College graduate Marcos Ugarte, however, did start for the Rhinos.

Greater Binghamton, which made it the second round by defeating Western Mass Pioneers on penalties last week, created a few offensive chances in the second half, not more promising than a near-penalty in the 75th minute. After a string of passes, the visitors found forward Slavisa Ubiparipovic in the box, but he was taken out by Rhinos keeper Adam Grinwis. The referee felt the keeper got enough of the ball and no penalty was called.

Greater Binghamton FC did not register a shot until stoppage time in the second half, as their lone shot was made in the 92nd minute.

The Rhinos now advance to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, where they will travel to face the Harrisburg City Islanders on Wednesday, May 27th. The City Islanders advanced Wednesday with a convincing 3-0 victory over Reading United A.C.

The Rhinos have League match scheduled for Saturday, as they will travel to face Toronto FC II, hoping to maintain their unbeaten 6-0-3 record in the USL Eastern Conference.
