The Rochester Rhinos won their second match in four days on Saturday afternoon as they beat Toronto FC II 2-0 at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Revolution loanee Timi Mulgrew made a substitute appearance in the 70th minute and played through the final whistle.

The Rhinos scored goals in rapid succession as Steevan Dos Santos and Jonny Mendoza scored in the 56th and 58th minute, respectively. For Dos Santos, it was his fifth goal on the season, while Mendoza’s goal represented his third goal.

Toronto FC II faced an uphill battle going into the match, as they had to face the unbeaten Rhinos with a short-handed squad. A total of eight players were missing for the match, with six players with the Canadian Pam-Am soccer team, while goalkeeper Quillan Roberts was with the Canadian Men’s National Team at the Gold Cup and Jordan Hamilton was called up to Toronto FC of the MLS.

The Rhinos’ defense again were solid as the shutout means they have only conceded 6 goals in 17 USL regular-season matches. Keeper Brandon Miller earned his 8th shutout of the season, and he has only conceded three goals in 11 starts.

Providence College graduate Marcos Ugarte got his first start for the Rhinos since June 19th. Revolution loanee Tyler Rudy was suspended for the match after earning his first career red card in the Rhinos’ previous match.

The win improves the Rhinos record to 11-0-6 and extends their franchise-record unbeaten streak to 17 games. The victory boosts their lead for first place in the USL Eastern Conference to eight points over the Charleston Battery, who was not in action on Saturday. The Rhinos return back home to Sahlen’s Stadium where they have a spotless 6-0-0 record, where they will face the Charlotte Independence next Saturday, July 18th.
