The 2015 salaries were released by the MLS Players Union this week and most were about what could expected for the New England Revolution. Designated Player and captain Jermaine Jones tops the list for the Revolution with a $2.8 million base salary and just over $3 million in salary guaranteed at this point of the season.

Center back Jose Goncalves comes in with the second highest salary at $450,000 base with $479,375 guaranteed, both exceeding the $436,250 Designated Player threshold. Goncalves is not a Designated Player, so his salary is likely being bought down with allocation money. In third is Juan Agudelo, who re-signed with the club this offseason with a $400,000 base salary and $427,500 currently guaranteed.

Among starters, Scott Caldwell ($60,000 base/$67,500 guaranteed), Charlie Davies ($78,750/$82,759) and London Woodberry ($60,000/$60,000) are the biggest bargains, all making less than six figures.

Reigning team MVP Lee Nguyen, who expressed unhappiness with his contract back in May, has a $175,000 base salary (fifth on the team) and $193,750 guaranteed (seventh on the team).

Also notably on the list is Guatemalan Marvin Ceballos, who the Revolution have yet to officially announce the signing of, at $50,000.

Overall, the Revolution’s base salary total comes to $5,921,005.08, while the guaranteed compensation is at $6,566,089.61. The MLS salary cap this year is set at $3,490,000.

While it is unclear what numbers are used to calculate the salary cap hit, some calculations can be made to at least get a better idea of where the Revolution stand. Adjusting Jones’ and Goncalves’ salaries for maximum budget hits ($436,250 each), adjusting Ceballos salary to half as a midyear signing and conservatively guessing the Revolution have the minimum of seven off budget salaries and taking the seven lowest listed salaries ($370,000 total) off the books, leaves the total base salary at $3,148,505 and guaranteed at $3,554,439. These estimates do not factor in further allocation buy downs below the maximum cap hit or that the Revolution may have eight off budget players, so if the MLS Players Union data is correct, the Revolution’s actual total for both base and guaranteed is likely lower.
