The New England Mutiny’s dreams of reaching their second WPSL Championship weekend in three seasons were dashed after they fell 2-0 to the Boston Breakers Reserves in Sunday’s East Region Final at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.

Breakers’ 2015 draft pick Stephanie Verdoia scored both goals for the Reserves in the 12th and 40th minutes, allowing her side to book its ticket to the Championship round in Oklahoma City, Okla., which will take place during the weekend of Jul. 25-26.

Kate Howarth, who scored in Saturday’s East Region Semifinal against Yankee Lady FC, made a bid in the 70th minute, but her dangerous shot was cleared off the line to keep the Mutiny from filing a reply. The East Longmeadow, Mass. side was attempting to return to the WPSL Championship after earning a berth to the 2013 national semifinals.

With the win, the Breakers Reserves upped their mark to 11-0-1. They will face Pacific-South champion SoCal FC (11-0-2) on Saturday.

The Mutiny, which clinched its postseason berth after they claimed the Power 5 division crown, finished the season with an 8-2-0 record.
