The Revolution bolstered their defense on Friday by acquiring veteran defender/midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson from FC Dallas in exchange for New England’s natural third-round draft pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

Watson, 32, recently trialed with the Revolution during the latter portion of their preseason camp after he and FC Dallas mutually agreed to part ways during the offseason, though the club still held his MLS rights. He started at right back in Saturday’s Desert Diamond Cup final against Columbus, a game in which he played 63 minutes.

”Je-Vaughn is a versatile player who brings significant experience in both MLS and the international stage to the roster,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said in a club release. “We’re confident he will play a valuable role for the team this season.”

The Jamaican international played in 23 games for Dallas in 2015, his third season with club. Prior to joining the Hoops, Watson played for Houston Dynamo from 2011 to 2012.

At the international level, Watson has made 52 appearances for the Reggae Boyz, and started in the squad’s Gold Cup championship showdown against Mexico last year.

With Watson on board, the Revolution roster stands at 24 players, with four open spots available.
