Rowe Sends Revs to 1st Road Win

Kelyn Rowe’s exquisite volley lifted the Revolution to its first road win of the season as the locals defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Saturday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

With the score level entering the 55th minute, Rowe whipped his right leg around a Teal Bunbury cross at the top of the box, uncorking a shot that eluded the dive of David Ousted to the put the Revolution ahead.

Rowe’s goal was preceded by a brilliant free kick effort from Nicolás Mezquida in the 41st minute that put the match on level terms after London Woodberry tallied his first career MLS goal in the 31st minute. Woodberry headed home a bending free kick from Lee Nguyen.

Revolution reserve keeper Brad Knighton earned the surprise start for Saturday’s match and made three saves to preserve the victory. It was Knighton’s first start in league action since Jul. 2015.

Saturday’s win allowed the Revolution to improve its record to 4-4-7 (19 points) while the Whitecaps dropped to 4-8-1 (13 points).

New England returns to action on Saturday, Jun. 25 at DC United, where they dropped a 3-0 loss to the Black and Red on Apr. 23.
