The season-long struggles that have plagued the Boston Breakers followed them to Chicago on Saturday where they dropped a 3-0 loss to the first-place Red Stars at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.

Sofia Huerta wasted no time putting the last-place Breakers in a hole by striking inside of three minutes. She added another to the ledger in the 47th minute while Casey Short capped the scoring in the 82nd minute. Vanessa DiBernardo collected assists on the first and third goals of the evening.

Boston’s best chance at breaking through came in the 45th minute when Kyah Simon fired a shot from inside the area that forced a reaction save from former Breakers’ keeper Alyssa Naeher.

The loss dropped the last-place Breakers to 1-7-1 (4 points), and saw their goal differential go to a league-worst negative-13. The Red Stars’ victory allowed them to improve their mark to 9-5-1 (19 points).

Boston remains on the road for their next three, the first of which will pit them against the Western New York Flash on Friday at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
