Roma-Juventus Set for Gillette This Summer
- Updated: March 21, 2017
Italian Serie A giants Juventus and AS Roma will meet at Gillette Stadium on Jul. 30 at 4:00pm as part of the 2017 International Champions Cup series, which will be played in 11 cities across the U.S. this summer.
The mid-summer match will mark the first time Roma has visited the region since 2014 when the club played an international friendly against Liverpool at Fenway Park. Juventus last visited Foxborough in 2003 when they played Barcelona in an international friendly.
“We are thrilled to bring the International Champions Cup with two great teams here to Gillette Stadium,” said New England Revolution President Brian Bilello in a release on Tuesday. “This is a tremendous opportunity for all sports fans in New England to witness a world-class tournament and we are looking forward to a great atmosphere.”
The International Champions Cup will run from Jul. 19–30 and feature 12 matches that will be played across the country.
In total, eight teams from around the globe, including England (Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur), Italy (Juventus, AS Roma), France (Paris Saint-Germain) and Spain (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid) will compete in this year’s tournament.
Each team will play three contests and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will be crowned champion. Each win in regulation will result in three points and a tie will go straight to a shootout; the winning team in a shootout will receive two points and the losing team will receive one.
