PDL: Pioneers Post 3rd Straight Win

The Western Mass Pioneers made it three straight wins after beating GPS Portland Phoenix 2-0 at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. on Friday.

After Friday’s match went into the half scoreless, the Pioneers grabbed the breakthrough in the 64th minute when Dan Fabian found Carlos Ruiz, who scored to put the hosts ahead. Chris Roswess added the second goal in stoppage time to secure the victory.

Goalkeeper Ben Martinez collected his third straight clean sheet of the young season despite the damp conditions in Hampden County.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to nine points (3-1-0) on the season. The loss kept the Phoenix on six points (2-1-0).

The Pioneers return to play on Wednesday when they hit the road to face FC Boston at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass. The Phoenix will be back in action on Saturday, Jun. 3 against the Long Island Rough Riders at Deering High School in Portland, Me.
