Boston City’s conference title hopes took a serious hit Saturday as the previously winless New York Athletic Club handed the Lions a 2-1 loss at Brother Gilbert Stadium in Malden, Mass.

Isaac Nana Addai scored the lone goal for Boston City, who suffered their first home defeat in the process, while Tristan Medios-Simon’s brace provided New York Athletic Club with their first win in ten tries in league play this season.

Boston City appeared to have the game under control as a deflected shot found its way to Addai, who gave the Lions the lead in the 22nd minute. For Addai, it was his ninth goal on the season, and his third goal over the last two games.

Chances were aplenty for both sides after the goal, which seemingly opened up play for both sides. New York broke through in the 59th minute when midfielder Stefan Gualano drove a low cross from the left wing, finding Medios-Simon on the far post for the goal.

Boston City came close to regaining the lead minutes later when Addai led forward Yaw Addow with a through ball, but Addow failed to beat the keeper. The Lions continued the pressure, with substitute Luca Tarable connecting with a deep cross from Yaw Addow, but his shot narrowly went wide of the post.

New York took the lead in the 79th minute when Median-Simon completed a counter-attack with a low shot to the far post, giving them a 2-1 lead that would hold through full-time.

The loss drops Boston City FC to 4-3-2 on the season, keeping them two points behind conference king Kingston Stockade FC. Kingston hold a total of 16 points through eight games, giving them a game in hand, while having a plus-4 lead in the goal differential tiebreaker.

The Lions hope to stay within striking range leading up to their critical regular-season finale against Kingston next month.

Boston City will look to make up some ground in their last mid-week game of the NPSL regular season when they travel to Portland, Me. to face the Seacoast United Mariners on Wednesday at 6:00pm.
