Barnburner in NE Champions League Opener

Albania United SC (BSSL) and Mass United FC (ASL) kicked off the opening match of the New England Champions League with a fury in Thursday’s 3-3 draw at Arlington High School in Arlington, Mass.

Romeo Zeqo and A.J. Hazard put Albania United atop by two goals before Jeff Thomas restored the cushion not long after.

But Mass United mounted frenzied comeback on goals from Majid Saeed and Mohamed Saeed before it was all said and done in the Group A opener.

The New England Champions League states that it is “dedicated to offering soccer clubs and players of all ages a platform to compete at their highest level.” The first edition of the tournament was held in 2016, and BSSL’s Southie FC claimed the first championship.

Lynn United, Southie FC, and New England Football Club will also be competing in this year’s tournament.

The remainder of the 2017 tournament schedule will be released in the coming days.
