Player Ratings: New England Revolution vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue and Brian O’Connell contributed ratings for the Revs 1-0 win over Vancouver.

Matt Reis – Average rating: 6.5 (Brian 6, Sean 7)
Made a pair of game-saving swats, but his distribution was shaky, at best. (Brian) … Several big saves to preserve the shutout. (Sean)

Darrius Barnes – Average rating: 6.5 (Brian 7, Sean 6)
Confident on the ball, smart passing, and never got too ambitious. Made the left back spot his own with ease. (Brian) … Struggled at times with Salinas’ speed, but otherwise looked at home at left back. (Sean)

A.J. Soares – Average rating: 5.75 (Brian 6, Sean 5.5)
Passed well, pushed up when needed, solid game. (Brian) … Solid match, but beaten by Salgado to a 70th minute header that nearly tied the game. (Sean)

Ryan Cochrane – Average rating: 5.25 (Brian 5, Sean 5.5): Held his own, but allowed Omar Salgado far too much space. (Brian) … Had a bit of trouble with Salgado, including his first half chance, but overall didn’t give away many opportunities. (Sean)

Kevin Alston – Average rating: 5.75(Brian 5.5, Sean 6)
Made a couple of nice tackles, added bite to the attack. (Brian) … One of his better games of the season. Had some saving tackles and looked decent getting forward. (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average rating: 6 (Brian 6, Sean 6)
Service on the wing and set pieces was promising. One of the few offensive catalysts. (Brian) … Created some dangerous chances for the Revs. (Sean)

Stephen McCarthy – Average rating: 4.25 (Brian 4.5. Sean 4)
Early chance to put Revs up sailed high. Offensive output minimal. (Brian) …Scuffed an early opportunity, saw yellow for an unnecessary tackle and overall didn’t add much to the attak. (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average rating: 4.75 (Brian 4.5, Sean 5)
Finish on penalty was perfect, but continues to make questionable decisions on the ball as of late. (Brian) … Perfect penalty, but distribution wasn’t as sharp as expected from the captain. (Sean)

Benny Feilhaber – Average rating: 6.5 (Brian 6, Sean 7)
Masterful on the ball; only thing that prevented his first MLS goal was assistant ref’s poor vision. (Brian) … Nearly had an early goal only to see his header deflected. Created the penalty kick and scored a fantastic goal that was wrongly disallowed. (Sean)

Zak Boggs – Average rating: 4.5 (Brian 4.5, Sean 4.5)
Pacey, but predictable. A few good passes made it a salvagable showing. (Brian) … Few opportunities, but found little success when he had the ball. (Sean)

Rajko Lekic – Average rating: 4.75 (Brian 5, Sean 4.5)
Lacked service, looked flat on the ball. Through pass on Feilhaber’s offside goal was the highlight of his night. (Brian) … Touch was lacking most of the night. (Sean)

(sub) Sainey Nyassi – Average rating: 6.25 (Brian 6.5, Sean 6)
Lively showing off the bench; added fire to the attack with pace and skillful passing. One of his best showings this season. (Brian) … Provided a spark off the bench. (Sean)

(sub) Kheli Dube – Average rating: 4.25 (Brian 4, Sean 4.5)
Touch was missing; unsurprisingly looked rusty. (Brian) … Doesn’t look suited to play as the lone striker in the Revs current set-up. (Sean)
