Revolution Youth Academy product Mitchell Taintor, who trained with the Revolution senior team over the past two summers, inked a deal with USL side Toronto FC II on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old center back/central midfielder played three seasons with the Revolution U-16s and U-18s between 2009 and 2011, and also appeared in six MLS Reserve League matches. Taintor was drafted by Toronto in the third round (59th overall) during this year’s SuperDraft, and played in four preseason contests with the senior team during the winter.
“Mitchell is a versatile player that has experience in both midfield and defense and has proven himself during preseason with both the first team and Toronto FC II,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a team release on Tuesday. “We are excited to bring Mitchell to Toronto FC II and allow him to continue his development under Jason Bent.”
Taintor recently completed his senior year at Rutgers University, was a Second Team All-Big Ten pick in 2015 after scoring five goals and notching five assists for the Scarlet Knights in 2015. The Storrs, Ct. native finished his collegiate career with 13 goals and six assists in 71 games between 2012 and 2015.
Taintor also played for the Revolution’s former PDL affiliate, the Real Boston Rams, in 2014.
As an Academy product, the Revolution had the option of filing a Homegrown claim on Taintor, and signing him prior to the SuperDraft.
