E.P. Wallops Clube Recordações 10-1

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kyle Teixeira piled up a season-high five goals to lead East Providence Sports to a walloping 10-1 win over Clube Recordações (New Bedford, Mass.) in LUSA League action on Sunday.
Teixeira opened the scoring in the sixth minute then added four more (14′, 22′, 62′, 89′) before the final whistle. Jimmy Hernandez (11′, 34′) Tristan Lewis (43′) Alonso Villasenor (75′) Peter Maciel (79′) all joined Teixeira on the scoresheet while Clube Recordações’ Gioncalo DeOliveira (67′) salvaged the lone success for the guests.
Any hopes of a competitive match were swept away within six minutes of the first chirp. The rout began when Teixeira hit a menacing free kick near the left edge that skipped through the guests’ defense before it lodged itself into the net.
Five minutes later, Hernandez, who tallied twice last week against Taunton Sports, resumed his scoring prowess when Jason Couto played it forward to him into space. From there, Hernandez ran at frame and fired it through to give E.P. an early cushion.
Teixeira struck again in the 14th minute when he hit another free kick – this time around the wall – before it ended up in the net. He secured a third only eight minute later from the run of play when he outhustled the defense and buried it in the 22nd minute.
In the 34th minute, Hernandez collected his second brace in as many weeks when he pounced on a Miguel Fortes rebound and poked it through to put a five spot on the scoreboard.
E.P. wrapped up the first half fireworks two minutes before the interval. Despite a trio of stunning saves from Clube Recordações keeper Andrew Pontbriand near the 40th minute, there was nothing he could do when Lewis went alone on him before chipping it through in the 43rd minute.
The hosts resumed its unrelenting form in the 62nd minute, when Maciel went down the left then sent inside the area, where Teixeira easily beat Pontbriand for the seven-goal advantage.
Meanwhile, DeOliveira refused to see his side go down without a fight. Firing away on the E.P. frame with regularity near the hour, the Clube Recordações sparkplug finally found paydirt in the 67th minute. Keen to spoil any ideas of a shutout, the midfielder took into the area and shoved it inside the near post to reclaim some measure of dignity for the dejected XI.
But even before the guests could file another response, Villasenor restored the seven-goal gap in the 75th minute when Maciel lofted it over the backline before it landed in front of E.P.’s speedy winger, who coolly cashed in.
In the 79th minute, Maciel, who collected two assists on the morning, converted a pass from Teixeira to make put the guests miles in the rearview.
Searching for a double-digit scoreline, Teixeira outworked his defender near the area and, with a clear look on frame, tucked it in to conclude the Sunday morning rout.
With the win, E.P. improves to 9-3-1 (28 points) while Clube Recordações falls to 5-8-0 (15 points).
East Providence returns to action next weekend, with a matchup against the Taunton Eagles on a date, time and location to be determined. Clube Recordações hopes to pick itself back up on Jul. 29 at 10am when they face Lindo’s ST at Billy Gonsalves Field in Fall River, Mass.
