Ex-Rev Sinovic Scores, But SKC Falls Short in Semifinal
- Updated: November 8, 2012
Former Revolution left back Seth Sinovic scored his first career goal in Wednesday’s Eastern Conference Semifinal to give Sporting Kansas City a 1-0 advantage for the second leg, but it wasn’t enough as they ultimately fell 2-1 to the Houston Dynamo on aggregate.
Sinovic’s 64th minute header, which came from a Graham Zusi cross, made it a 1-0 game and brought Kansas City within one on aggregate.
“It was an exciting moment,” Sinovic told the media after the game. “I didn’t really think much about it, just took the ball out of the net and back to the center circle. We wanted to keep going, keep playing fast, keep pressuring.”
Sinovic was selected by the Revolution in the second round of the 2010 SuperDraft. He played 20 games for New England in his rookie year, but was waived on Mar. 31, 2011.
While Houston may have gotten the best of Sinovic’s squad in the end, the Kansas City native believes that the scoreline didn’t match the efforts of his teammates.
“We outplayed them over the two games and probably deserve more,” Sinovic said. “But that’s how playoff soccer is. Houston is a tough team with a lot of experience. They’re never easy to break down. We did our best tonight and played our hearts out.”
Sinovic also thanked the home supporters that showed up for Wednesday’s semifinal.
“This team wouldn’t have been as successful without the fans,” Sinovic said. “Every single game day they showed up and they were loud. It’s an honor to play in front of them. You couldn’t ask for more from the fans and the entire organization, really.”
