Cameron’s Stoke Upset Liverpool

Geoff Cameron’s Stoke City side find themselves in eighth place in the Premier League after defeating Liverpool on Wednesday evening. Cameron, an Attleboro, Mass. native, started and went the distance in Stoke’s 3-1 win over their more famous foes.
Stoke (6-3-10, 28 points), with Cameron featuring at right back, have allowed just 14 goals in 19 games this season, the lowest total in England’s Premier League. Stoke is also first in the league with nine clean sheets, already matching their total from last season. Last year Stoke was seventh worst in the Premier League in goals allowed with 53 in 38 games.
Cameron joined Stoke in August from the Houston Dynamo for a fee reported to be around $2.6 million. He is currently among the Premier League’s leaders in both tackles and interceptions.
The Potters fell behind in just the second minute on Wednesday after Luis Suarez earned Liverpool an early penalty kick and captain Steven Gerrard converted.
But Stoke equalized just three minutes later through Jonathan Walters and then took the lead in the 12th minute through Kenwyne Jones.
Walters would score again four minutes into the second half to put Stoke up 3-1. The Potters would hold on from there for their sixth win of the season.
The lone bad news of the night for Stoke and Cameron was the University of Rhode Island product picked up a yellow card in the match, ruling him out of Stoke’s match against Southampton on Saturday due to yellow card accumulation.
Stoke’s win against Liverpool is just the most recent of many impressive results for the club that include draws against Arsenal and Manchester City.
