With an eye toward next month’s WPSL season opener, the New England Mutiny added 10 players to its roster, including former team leading scorer Kate Howarth on Thursday.

Howarth, who scored a team-high nine goals for the Mutiny in 2012, joins Karen Gurnon, goalkeeper Ellie McDougall, midfielder/forward Kerry Scalora, midfielder/forward Julie Hubbard, defender Ellie Jean, midfielder Allison Kelley, midfielder/defender Bailey Robinson, goalkeeper Kristyn Shea and defender Julia Weithofer as the latest additions to the club’s roster.

“In order to contend for the playoffs it was extremely important for us to add quality depth to the roster, especially considering the attrition we endured at the end of last season,” said Mutiny Team Owner Joe Ferrara, Jr. said in a team release. “Each of these players have the ability to play a significant role provided that they can mesh with the core returnees.”

The new additions will join the 15 players previously signed by the Mutiny last month. But even though the club has a total of 25 players on its roster, the club will look to put the final touches on its roster in the coming weeks.

“We will now conduct a couple of open tryouts shortly to fill in the remaining roster positions,” Ferrara said, “and get ready for our opener vs. Maine on May 17th.”
