ASL: O’s Sign Ex-NYRB Midfielder Maduro

The Rhode Island Oceaneers made their splashiest signing of the winter so far by adding former New York Red Bulls midfielder Ryan Maduro to the roster on Friday.
Maduro, who trialed with English sides, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool, as well as Portugal’s Belenenses prior to joining the Red Bulls in 2012, gives the young Oceaneers side a proven veteran.
“Ryan gives the club what we need as a leader on and off the pitch,” Oceaneers coach Jasir Charris said in a team release on Friday. “After watching Ryan train with us over the last several weeks, we knew that we are well on our way to competing for the League Championship.”
Maduro was a two-time All BIG EAST first team selection during his four seasons in Providence. He scored 14 goals and added 22 assist in 78 games for the Friars. He also played for the Rhode Island Stingrays in 2009, where he was reunited with of former Providence College teammate and future Revolution draft pick Andrew Sousa.
The Oceaneers will kick off the Spring ASL schedule at home on Apr. 4 against AC Crusaders.
