Former Revolution midfielder Andrew Sousa signed with the Rhode Island Oceaneers on Saturday, strengthening a midfield that just added ex-New York Red Bulls midfielder Ryan Maduro.

Sousa, who was drafted by the Revolution in 2011, joins the Oceaneers after playing in Iceland for Fylkir, who came just short of Europa League qualifying last year. He scored five goals in 15 games for the Fylkismenn in 2014.

Prior to joining Fylkir, the Providence College star played for Real Boston Rams (2013), Portuguese third-division side Operario (2012-13), and now-defunct PDL side Boston Victory. He also played for the Rhode Island Stringrays in 2009, where he was a teammate of Maduro.

The addition of Sousa, which came only a day after the club signed Maduro, immediately makes the Oceaneers a contender going into the ASL spring season, which starts on Apr. 4. The Oceaneers will open the spring schedule on Apr. 4 against AC Crusaders.

The Oceaneers completed the fall 2014 season with a 2-3-3 (nine points) record.
