Chae Brangman tipped a level game in favor of the Western Mass Pioneers on Friday, sending them to a 2-1 win over A.C. Connecticut at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Ct.

With the score tied at one apiece in the 87th minute, Brangman blasted a shot from 30 yards that bulged the back of the Connecticut net.

Pioneers skipper Maxi Vieira opened the scoring in the 10th minute but the Blues responded shortly thereafter when Henning Dirks backheeled a pass to Louis Greenway, who buried it in the 14th minute.

Blues goalkeeper Steve Sasso made a game-high four saves to keep a hungry Pioneers’ attack from getting the go-ahead until the final minutes.

Friday’s win allowed the Pioneers to improve to 2-1-2 (8 points), putting them within two points of first place Seacoast United Phantoms. The Blues’ record dropped to 1-2-1 (4 points).

Western Mass returns to action on Wednesday when they head to the Empire State to face FA Euro at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y. A quick turnaround will put Connecticut back on the pitch on Sunday when they travel to South Huntington, N.Y. to face the Long Island Rough Riders.
