Hartford City FC clinched the third and final playoff spot in the conference by beating the Rhode Island Reds 4-2 on Sunday at Johnston High School in Johnston, R.I.

With the match level at two apiece in the waning stages, Paulinton Johnson put the Colts back in command by punching the twine in the 78th and 88th minutes.

The Nutmeg State selection needed to overcome an early deficit after Fabrice Dogbey scored in the 29th minute to put the hosts ahead. Hartford City fought back on goals from Michael Semedo (44th minute) and Luke Alvaro (63rd minute) before the Reds made it anyone’s match in the 65th minute on Dogbey’s second goal.

Sunday’s victory, which capped a solid regular season (5-3-4, 19 points) for the NPSL debutants, came barely 24 hours after the Colts claimed a 2-1 road win over New York Athletic Club in Pelham Manor, N.Y.

Hartford City will face Boston City FC (6-3-3, 21 points) in Wednesday’s Atlantic White Conference Division semi-final at Brother Gilbert Stadium in Malden, Mass. at 8:00pm.
