Reserve League Schedule Released
- Updated: February 20, 2012
Major League Soccer announced the 2012 MLS Reserve League schedule on Monday afternoon, featuring ten games for each team. The New England Revolution opens its Reserve League schedule on April 9th in Philadelphia.
The Revs are part of the seven team Eastern Conference with the Columbus Crew, D.C. United, Montreal Impact, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC. According to a league release, teams in the seven-team Eastern Conference will play an unbalanced schedule, facing four of their conference opponents twice, home and away, one additional conference opponent at home, and the remaining club once on the road.
There will be no Reserve League playoffs this season and the team with the most points in the standings at the end of the year will be declared champions. In 2011, the Revs finished third in the then six-team Eastern Conference with a 4-5-1 record (13 points).
Teams are allowed to add additional games for reserve squads against non-MLS opponents, though they will not count in the standings.
The Revs will announce at a later date if reserve games are open to the public this season, but the team’s April 14th match against D.C. United and July 8th match against the New York Red Bulls are both currently scheduled to take place at Gillette Stadium directly after first-team matches. However, times and locations are subject to change.
