Azul Attack Stays Sharp in 4-0 Win Over Voltage

It was same stuff, different night for Ryan Kinne on Saturday.

Twenty-four hours after he scored two in a 6-0 romp over Boston, Kinne collected two more in the Azul’s 4-0 victory over the Voltage at Pomperaug High School on Saturday.

The club captain opened the scoring in the 54th minute and added his second in the 84th minute. Sonny Narro and Conor Doyle each contributed to the winning effort with second half goals while Azul keeper Matt Sangeloty secured his second-straight clean sheet.

“Back-to-back games (are) always difficult and I thought we struggled in the first half,” CFC Azul head coach David Kelly said in a post-game release. “We struggled to get momentum, we struggled to get chances…so we spoke about that at halftime. We made a couple of changes and I thought we were very good in the second half.”

After a silent first half, the Azul summoned the form that saw them score six the night before in the 53rd minute.

Off a defensive miscue in the Voltage end, Kinne collected it then scored to put the hosts on the board minutes after the interval.

Narro followed suit minutes later when Markus Nagelstad, who collected three assists on Friday, set him up for the second goal of the game.

Kinne claimed his second goal of the game in the 84th minute to put distance on Vermont while Doyle capped the scoring in stoppage time. In five games with the Azul, Kinne leads all of PDL in scoring (6 goals) and points (13).

The Azul return to action on June 2 against Portland Phoenix in Farmington, Conn. while the Voltage head home on May 30 to host the Ottawa Fury.
